THE OPPOSITION.
QUESTION OF LEADERSHIP. 1 (Feou Oon Own Cobbesposdent.) WELLINGTON, Auguslj 31. No announcement has yet been mads regarding the leadership of the Opposition. Sir Joseph Ward's delay in giving his answer to'the invitation of the Liberal party has damped the enthusiasm of the party somewhat. There is not so much heard now of the talk of "stirring things up,"'and the hints as to a, possible early dissolution are no longer in evidence. The delay is also said to be encouraging other Liberals to entertain hopes that it may yet fall to their lot to lead the party. As there is no probability of the Opposition being anything more than an Opposition for a considerable time to come, the position, whatever honour it mav possess, ako requires some sacrifice, as it means a great deal of hard work.
