Mr S. Hurst Seager, of Christchurch, is at present in Dunedin as an adjudicator upon the designs that have been submitted for the erection of a Town Hall.

Special reference was made by the Rev. J. L. llobinson at the morning service in First Church yesterday to the death of the Hon. Jame6 Balfour, M.L.C., of Melbourne, father of the minister of First Church (the Rev. G. H. Balfour). In the musical portion of both the morning and evening services the hymns and organ voluntaries were appropriate to the occasion. _ Mr R. B. Grange, who 'will unofficially represent the dominion at the Refrigerating Conference in .Chicago, left Wellington last week by the Main.Trunk express for Auckland to join the' Vancouver steamer."

Speeches of a highly complimentary character were made by representative speakers; and JJr Patterson, who is tho retiring president of the Phttnix Bowling Club, was presented with a gold watch suitably inscribed, while a silver spirit kettle was handed to him for Mrs Patterson, whose kindness to the bowlers was eulogised. News was reoeiyed in Dunedin on Saturday of the death in Scotland of Mr William Forsyth, formerly well known both in Dunedin and Milton. Mr Forsyth was for many years traveller for a Glasgow firm. Ho relinquished that first, aifd started a store at Mingamahu. For a time he acted as one of the managing trustees in the estato of hie great uncle-in-lnw. Mr P. M'Gill, the flourmiller, and then lived in Milton. A few years ago he returned to Mongamahu, and also took up a large area of land at Ore Ore. His health broke down through overwork, and lie was travelling in search' c/f renewed health when he died."
