MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT.

COLLISION NEAR HENLEY. A motor car accident whioh migh't have had very serious consequences to more than one of the participants occurrcd yesterday afternoon near Henley. From what can bo gathered it appears Mr W. 11. Ings, practising as a dentist in this city, and a friend named Mr Waters, went out for a spin along the Main South road in a car belonging to the former. On the other side of Henley they were overtaken by another car, driven bj Mm Stevens, and belonging to Mr Thomas' Sneddon, of Mornington. While crossing a culvert approaching a cutting the car driven by Mrs Stevens attempted to pass Mr Ings's car, but in doing so it came perilously nrdr the edge of the culvert. To avoid going over the bank, the car was brought abruptly on to the road again, and collided with tho car in front, and pushed it up an embankment on' tho other side of tho road, causing it to capsize.

Mr Waters was thrown clear, and was practically uninjured, but Mr Ings, who was driving, was not eo fortunate, the car pinning him to the ground. lie was extricated as speedily as possible, and upon (xamination was found to have broken his nose, besides receiving several severe cuts on hia head and bruises on other parts of his body. Mr Irgs cecapcd comparatively lightly, a« tho accident might easily have resulted fatally. The car was smashed practically beyond repair. The five occunants of tho other car CEoaped unhurt, and the car was undamaged beyond tho smashing of tho splashboard and a few dents. , Mr Ings was conveyed to town by Dr Cleveland, whoso car appeared on the scene shortly after the accident occurred. Tho injured man was driven to his residence, and was immediately attended to by Dr Church. It is probable that as a rceult :of his injuries Mr Ings will bo laid up for about three weeks.
