ALLOTMENT OF DUTIES. • (P®» Umtid Pbms Asiocunoa.) AUCKLAND, August 31. The party of 12 senior medical students reached Auckland from the Otago University on Saturday morning, having coma in response to the request of the Depart- ■ ment of Public Health for service in the . campaign against smallpox. They reported themselves during the forenoon to the chief health officer and received from him an ,: outline of the work which would be lefraired of them. Dr Valintine remarked ■ ■ that students who went into the country ■ had exoellent opportunities of becoming acquainted with a disease which rarely appeared in the dominion, as well as securing a knowledge of the country north of Auckland and of the ways of tne Maori people, ■' The students made it quite apparent that they had come to the front with much enthusiasm and a keen desire to have ■ their abilities and resourcefulness put to the test. '; \ , Poor of the students (Messrs Tapper, -. Watt, Meyers, and! Haslett) have left for ' Whangaiei, en route to Kaikohe, to re- " port to Dr Cawkwell. Two more (Messrs . Serpell and Cameron) will go to Mangonui . by the steamer which leaves on Monday to do duty under the direction of Dr Will. The remaining six will be- kept in Auck- . land for the time being to do patrol work and to assist in vaccinating contacts.
