Tho following are tho chief clauses in tho award, whicn, a memorandum states, em- ( bodies' without alteration the agreement of the parties: — the purposes of this award every person shall be deemed to be a 6oft-goods assistant who is engaged in any capacity in connection with tlie reception, display, sale, or delivery of soit-goods ' in the retail establishments of those cmj ploycrs who are bound by the award. Clttfflficatkm 'of Workers.—Softgoods assistants shall bo classified as follows: — Apprentices, improvers, assistants (including males and females), stpremen, packers, and porters. An apprentice, is a worker who lias 6erved less "than" four years in the softgoods trade. An improver is a worker who has served more than four years and less than six years in the soft-goods ■ trade. An assistant is a worker who has served six years or more in the soli-goods trade. A storcman or packer is a worker.engaged in' packing and unpacking eoit-goods. A. porter is a worker engaged as a general cleaner or messenger, or in tho delivory of goods by hand. ■ Wages—(a) Assistants 16 ' years of age and under entering tho trade without previous experience sliall be paid not less than the rates of wages set out in the following' scale—viz., (during the first year of service, males 103 per week, females 7s 6d; Becond year, males 15s, females 10s; third year, males £1, females 12s 6d; fourth year, males £1 ss, females 15s; fifth year, males £110s, females £1; sixth year, males £1.17s 6d, females £1 2s 6d; and thereafter, males £2 15s, fema-'es £1 7s 6d. (b) An assistant entering the trade.-without.previous .experience, from the age of 17 years to 18 years; shall be treated as having entered upon Ids or her second year of service,'and shall be paid in accordance with the said scale; (c) without previous experience, froni tho age ol 18 to 19 years, shall bo treated as haying entered upon hifi or her third year.of service; and shall be paid in accordance with 'the said scule; (d) without previous experience, from the age of 19 to 21 years, shall • bo treated as having entered upon his or her fourth year of''service, and shall be paid in accordance with, the eo:d scale (c) without previous'experience, at the ago of 21 years and over, shall bo treated as haying entered upon hie or her fifth .\ear of service, and shall bo paid in accordance with tho said scale, (f) The provisions of sub-clauses (b), (c), (d), and (e) shall not bo binding upon any employer in regard to an assistant engaged prior to the coming into force of this award, (g) Any female who is employed-wholly or substantially in a dress, Manchester, drapery-furnishing, or print department shall be paid one-half more than the wages specified for females in the said scale. .Weekly Employment.—(a) The employment shall be deemed to bo weekly employment, and no deduction shall be made from tho weekly employment except for time lo6t through the worker's sickness or default, (b) Not less than seven.days' notice shall be given by either party of .the termination of the employment (except in the case of caeual hands)"; but nothing in this clause shall prevent an employer from summarily dismissing any worker for wilful misconduct. Casual Hands.—Casual hands employed from day to day shall, in the case of maJes, be paid' not'less than lfi 3<l per hour, and :n the case of females not l£6s than lOd per hour. Lift Attendants-Nothing in this award shall bo deemed to apply to lift attendants. Clauses governing holidays, proportion of' apprentices and improvers, . under-rate workers, and preference are also provided.
