WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

The monthly meeting of the Xorth-finst Valley" branch of the Womcns Christian IVmperanoe Union was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs U. Calder presiding. The following resolution, to be sent to the local M.P., was carried unanimously: "That the Government should at once take in hand tho establishment of the proposed school, for feeble-minded girls on similar iincg to that at Otekaikc." A large amount of correspondence was received. Mrs Sanders contributed a paper on "The Effect of Alcohol on the Nervous System," showing tho deteriorating effect it has on the brain. Several resolutions drafted by the secretary af the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, Wellington, were brought forward and discussed,' and the union deto endorse them ail, Miss Donovan contributed a vocal solo.
