The master of tho Karaunui drwlge reports a return of 20oz 6dwt, won from tlic inside of tho cut.
At tho Saxon mine good progress is still being made with the extension of tho now crosscut at tho No. 7 lovel to intersect tho Cardigan lodes, a further distance of 33ft Laving boon driven for tho fortnight, making tho total distanco 119 ft driven from the shaft. Tho country being driven through is still of a very hard nature for boring, but shoots well, and will not require timbering. Work on the stopes over tho No. 5 level, on No. 2 reef, Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, was in progress last week. Tho reef carried favourable minerals, but only a littlo gold was seen in the oro broken. In tho south stopo, Die reef showod no change, being still of very favourable appearance, and showing dabs of gold when broken. In the south drive, cutting out tho position for tiic riso had been completed. At No. 3 level in tho New Sylvia mine, Thames, tho drive was 402 ft from tho south rise last week. Six stopes were in progress, and were producing a good supply of fair ore. In tho intermediate level a connection bad been effected with tho-new rise, ami when this was timbered up rising to N. 3 lovel would bo oonnncnced. Tho reaf looked well in the fnco of tho drive. Two, stopes were going over the lave!, and the quartz was carrying a fair amount of mineral. One stopo uns going on No. 1 reef, above the battery level, on heavily, mineralised ore. The low level
was advanced lift, and there was no change in the country. Two silt pits had been cut along the love!, and these would keep tho tramline clear. ' DREDGING RETURNS. Oz. dwt. gr.
