Mason, who will be in charge 'of the New Zealand football team that will visit California, this year, states that he hopes to bo in Wellington early in September, in order to mako arrangements for' the departure of the team. v DISQUALIFIED PLAYERS. The Southland Rugby Union has made persistent efforts to have the life disqualification removed from Northern Union players. ' The New Zealand Union. has been equally persistent in declining the request, and tho local body after fighting, the matter to the last issuo as far as tho controlling body was concerned, wrote asking tlie New Zealand Rugby Union tomato a case to the English Union.. At to-night's meeting of the Southland Union a reply was received to the effect that no good obect would bo scerved by sending the matter to the English Union, as the' easo had already been decided upon by the Appeal Council. This reply caused many hard things to be said against the New Zealand Rugby Union, and it was decided to refer the letter back to that body, A motion was also carried that the. union should make an endeavour to have the headquarters removed from Wellington. If this proved abortive then an effort would be made to influence other unions to support a motion abolishing proxy voting. ASSOCIATION. Four of the leading teams in the Cup competition will be seen in action on Culling Park to-day. The match between Kaitangata and Mornington A, commencing at 1.45 0.m., will be a testing one, inasmuch as Mornington A will rcqniro to win to keep in the running, while Kaitangata cannot afford to risk a loss, whioh may place Northern A above them. The last named, at the conclusion of the fixture already mentioned, will play their return match, against Mornington B, the only team to beat them 60 far this season. Mornington B are fast and vigorous, always in tlie pink of condition, and Northern, who are of the same order, are determined to wipe off tho deficit this time.
