WELLINGTON, July 25. The City Council has entered into an agreement with the Fire Brigade. The union is to remain in force for two years. An all-round increase in wages is given of 5o weekly. The senior firemen's maximum wage is £2 176 6d weekly; motormen, £3 6s. An annual holiday of a fortnight on full pay is granted and certain special leave each week. Preference is granted to members of the union, but it is stipulated that the union is not to have any connection with any federation of unions or other workers' organisations. In the event of the union joining such a body the agreement ceases. CHRISTCHUBCH, July 25. At a meeting of the Executive Council of the South Island Poultry Association held last night it was decided to grant a permit to the Winton Poultry Society to hold a show on August 6.
TIMARU, July 25. At a meeting of the local committee of the Automobile Association to-day it was resolved to advise the members to dissolve the connection with the South Canterbury Union and join the North Canterbury Association.
