Trouble has arisen between the Union Company and the Australasian Institute of Marino Engineers over the company's action in deducting half a day's pay for Saturday afternoon.

■The engine-room staff on the Niagara afc noon to-day gave 24 hours' notice. 'J he men claim that the company k not justified in deducting the pay, since the New Zealand and Sydney agreement stipulates thai the men shall not work on Saturday ofternoon unless it is sailing day.

It is understood that negotiations have been commenced.

The Niagara is due to sail on Monday for Vancouver, via Auckland.
