BANKRUPT SETTLER.

PROSECUTION TO BE INSTITUTED. A BAD RECORD. (Pee United Press Association.) . HAMILTON, July 24. At a meeting of creditors in, the estato of Alfred Crossley, a settler at Rotorua held at Hamilton to-day, tho liabilities wero shown to bo £40C and tho assets nil. It was stated that bankrupt, under the name of Crossley, became bankrupt at Wellington 15 years ago; and the Official Assignee stated that the man had been convicted' 17 times on various charges. Bankrupt said all tho property belonged to his wife and lie was only , acting as manager. He denied having placed it in his wife's name after his bankruptcy. It was decided to institute a prosecution under the penal clauses of the Act, as it was .considered that there was a growing opinion that commercial houses could bo defrauded with impunity, and it should 'be ended.

Tho wife consented to file her schedule within a fortnight.
