MAORIS v. SOUTH CANTERBURY. (Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, July 24. Tho Maoris defeated South Canterbury to-day by 19 points to 8. Tlie home team were playing their first representative match, and lacked combination, in which the Maoris wcro well practised. A great deal'of intorest was taken in the match, and 3000 pcoplo werp present. HIGH SCHOOLS' MATCH. (Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, July 24. In the High Schools' match between Tiinaru and Waitaki tho former won against a heavier team by 12 points to 8. The result is notable, as Timaru had not scored at all against Waitaki in eleven previous matches. At tho meeting of tho Now Zealand Rugby Union on Wednesday night Mr J. F. Peake (Christchurch) was appointed reforeo for tho North Island v. South Island match. i In order to meet tho convenience of Dunedin enthusiasts who may wish to watch the North v. South liiland match at Ohristchurch, Messrs Iluddart-Parker (Ltd.) are detaining tho sailing of tho Wimmora from Lyttclton on Saturday till the arrival of tho 6.15 p.m. train from Christchurch. ASSOCIATION. Owing to tlie bad state of tho grounds, all matchcs were postponed yesterday. This was tho sccond postponement this eeason.
