(Pir Uhitm Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 24. Replying to a deputation from the Acclimatisation Societies' Conference to-day, the Hon. H. D. Bell, Minister of Internal Affairs, said he would be prepared to protect opossums in all districts outside the recognised fruit-growing districts. He characterised the whole industry as a cruel and brutal one. CHRISTCHOECH, July 24. The executive of the South Island Brass Bands Association have appointed Mr E. Sutton, of Glasgow, jud"e at the Invercargill contests. Mr Sutton will judge the Ikllarat contests.
