Thero was much speculation (says the Ohrietchurch Press) in view of the hard southerly gale that prevailed on the coast on Monday night, whether the Union Company'e new turbine steamer Wahine would "make good" on her firet trip 6outh, but all doubt on this point was settled bv the arrival of the ship at Lyttelton on time on Tuesday morning. A reporter was informed by Captain Aldwell that the Wahine had more than fulfilled expectations, and had had not the slightest difficulty in keeping in the teeth of a hard southerly gale with "only three-fourths of her boiler power in use. During the excureion trip in Wellington Harbour, on Monday afternoon she steamed 20 knots with ease on six of her eight'boilers.
