BOWLING.

Note 3 dy Jack,

The annual report of the Dnnedin Centre contains nothing that is now, being merely a rccord of the centre's activities during the past season. Thanks to the large entry for the Easter tournament, thoro is' a substantial credit, balance, and the executive, under Mr Lindsay's chairmanship, will thus leave their successors in a position to take on the association tournament with funds in hand for the necessary preliminaries. It is to bo regretted that the inter-ccntre matches have fallen through, but such being the case it might bo good policy to allow them to remain in aboyanco for a year or two, unless the centre is prepared with some scheme by which nomination to a centro team would bo regarded as sotting a seal, upon meritorious and consistent play.

While referring to the association tournament and the centre, it k to be hoped that in nominating candidates for the council some steps will be taken to ascertain the views of those aspiring to be councillors on tho question of the control and management of tho tournament. The alteration of tho clause in tho constitution by eliminating what some termed the " Gallaway blot," was made so secretly and was quite unnoticed by many members of the present council, that in commencing a now era centres should ascertain whether tho views of the candidates are also tho views of the centre*. Without some such precaution the centre may find that instead of being required to prepare and submit a programme to the council for approval tl>e council may proparo the programme /tod send it to the_ with p. request to carry it into effect. This was the change foreshadowed at an informal conference in Christehurch. At tho annual meeting of the Taieri Club, Mr W. 11. I/. Christie (president) being in the chair, the annual report, the substance of which has already appeared, was adopted. Mr A. 1". Quelch was clccted president. Mr Wm. Allan vice-president, and Mr J. A. M'lvirmon secretary. Flattering references wore made to Mr M'Kinr.on's long mid excellent service. Mo.tf of the aub-committees were re-elected. No. fewer than 11 new members'were elected. , It was decided to continue the two-life system for

the Singles Championship, also to hold a social. The system of reserving three rinkfl in tho evening for matches was resolved upon. It was suggested to the Match Committee to have club matches played off beforo tho end of February, eo as to conserve the daylight. A committee ivas set up to make arrangements for a bazaar to liquidate tho indebtedness on tho club, and make further improvement*. The delegates to the centre (Messrs W. Allen and J. A. M'Kinnon) were left with a free hand ae to the systeni under which inter-elub matches should be played.
