ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following- is the engineer's report to bo submitted to the monthly meeting ( pf ' the Harbour Board on' Friday Dredging.—Dredge 222 is now in d%'k . undergoing alterations and overhaul. During tho month of, June the dredee lifted 12,062 c./yards from the channel leading' to- - the Vulcan's hew pit, 8330 c. yards lrom Birch street wharf berthage, 3332 c. yards from the vicinity of pile 9, and 4938 c. yards .from tho vicinity of pile 12 in the Victoria i Channelmaking a total of 28,722 c. yircls, ; ; equal to 35 loads, wihich were deposited' as follows:'—7o64 c. yards at the Vulcan; i -... 10,829 c. yards at the bend, \ecuth of. Harrington Point; 10,629 c. yards at sea. During th(j month the dredge stemmed 704$ /;■ miles and burni 200 tons of coal.' Dredgo 404 is deepening' the Lower Rarboirr • nel. opposite Deborah Bay. During tho '■: month of Juno tho drodgo lifted 12,240 c. yards from the. Lower Harbour channel, off Deborah Bay, and 4680 c. yards from fcho• • ■ cross channel. Lower Harbour; making' a total of 16,920 c. yards, equal to 47 loads, .whiob were deposited as follows:—3600-c. yards in the 'bend, south of Harrington Point; 13,320 c. yards at sea. During- tho month tho dredge steamed 378 -miles and burnt 88 tons of coal.' Dredge Vulcan is bsing fitted with' the new motor and pump preparatory to tho reclamation of. Like Logan. During, the month of June 23.984 c. yards were pumped ashore, 14,331" c. yards into Lake Logan; and 9653 c. yards on to the area north ,of Frederick street,.. the length of the drive being 2126 ft. ■ New Tug a/nd Salvage Steamer.—Tho progress of the construction of the abovo-. vessol is satisfactory, although the work fcas been somewhat impeded lfy bad weather and a shortage' of skilled labour. Tho plating of the bull is completed, and the vessel is practically ready for launching. Bulwarks have been creotod and stanchions secured to same. Hawso pipes have been, cast, and fitted in position. Seats have been prepared for two centrifugal salvage pumps w J hich irave been placed aboard ship. The . construction oi the boiler is well forward; combustion obambcr -plates have all been ■ flanged and annealed, end plates drilled-and riveted, and tho various plates are now . being assembled for drilling. Tho main en- . gincs are practically finished, the thrust shaft- and bearing, propeller shafts, stem tubes, and propellers have been machined and fitted, and are now ■ready to be placed in position _ .i j. Black Jack's Wall.—This work is steadily advancing. For a period of four iveeks ending July 9, 1913, 3931 c yards were placsd o.i tho wall, making a total of 31,374| c.,. yards to that date. The extension of ' the ' wall in tho four weeks amounted to 143 ft; making a-total of 1808 ft of wall in posi- . tion. • _ V ' Sunshine Quarry—Work at this quarry r is confined to quarrying operations and'-the r putting in of tiho tracks required for steiom | haulage work a.t the viaduct is also bping ■ . continued. 1 Boiler Point Wall.—Good progress is j being made at this work. For a period of 1 three weeks ceding July 12,.. 1913, 1864 e. t yards of stone were deposited on the wall, j making a total to that date of 4307,:, ; c.' - ya.rds. Tlie extension of the .wall in , sho ■ four weeks amounted to 42ft, making a total - . of 154 ft of wall in position.
