Mr (J. J. f . Arnold has been appointed first assistant in the Oamaru South School. Members of the staff of the Dunedin Drainage Board met on Monday evening to say gooa-bye to Mr S. S. Qeorge, who has lett the board's service to commence business on his own account as illuminator and draughtsman. Mr Cullens, in tho absence of Mr Slingcr, presented Mr George with a diiiaii easy-chair and wished him overy success in uia new sphere, Mr George suitably responded.

A representative gathering met in the Trinity Schoolroom last evening to bid good-bye to Miss Edith Walton, who will proceed to Oliristchurch to-day to take up the position of deaconess at Durham Street Methodist Church. Mr C. F. Oliver, senior circuit stoward, presided, and apologised for the absence of tho Rev, Mr Fairclough' owing to indisposition. Laudatory and farewell addresses wcro mado by Mr W. Bull, representing the Sundav school; Mr W. H. Duke, vice-president of the choir; Miss Jean Maxwell, on behalf of tho Monday evening Biblo class; and Mr E. Rosevear, representing tho congregation and office-bearers. Eaoh speaker, on behalf of tho various sections of the church represented, mado presentations fo Mies Walton. From tho choir sho received a handsomo leather bag with her initials printed on it; from the Monday evening Bible class an cbouy kicked hairbrush and mirror and a purse; and from tho congregation she received a purse of sovereigns. Miss Walton, who in her futuro official capacity will bo known as Sister Winifred,' suitab'y Replied, thanking the donors for their Handsomo presents to her. During the evening a musical programme was rendered and refreshments were handed round.
