Carl William, an old-age pensioner, was burned to death in his hut near Otaki on Tuesday night. WOODVILLE, June 11.

He had been working all day shifting teal at the gasworks, and was going home along'the railway line. _ The accident happened just outside Woodville. The deceased, who was about 65 years of age, leaves a widow and two daughters, h.th of whom an: married. CITRISTCHDKCH, June .11. An inquest on the body of Miss Edith Amelia Rennidene, who resided at East Oxford and who met with her death-yes-terday afternoon near Opawa, was held to-day. Henry George Hunt, a traveller, wiid lie was a passenger by tho 3.15 p.m. train from Lvttclton. _ At about Opawa the deceased pawed him as if she were pawing through tho train, and when she stepned on to the platform of n lirst-r.lncs carriage her hat blew off. She let go her trrip of the handrail to try to catch her hat, and the wind turned her right round and carricd her backwards oil to tho other line, on which a train was,;tr:n'olliiur. The train did not touch hor at all. .Richard Knisrhton, a ganger on the line, fa id iio found the deceased lying on the set of rails which the. train was not on. Me was quite dead. In answer to the coroner witness stated that the train was (.ravelling between 25 and 35 miles an hour at (lie time. The coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
