TIMARU LABOUR TROUBLES.
FOUR UNIONISTS CEASE WORK. FREEZING WORKS MANNED. (Pan Umitkd-i'ngss Association.) TIMARU, May 14. A number of unionists turned'up to work the steamer John this morning. Aftor Hie dinner hour five of them asked the agent if lie were aware, that nonunionists were at work. 'Die agent said that bo was not concerned with that question, and four of the five knocked off. The fifth returned 'to work, saying that he needed money. The |>!ae?s of the four were promptly filled by free men. The meat ship Kia Ora is due to-mor-row or the next day. Curiosity exists as to whether the unionists will offer to work hoi'. If not, there are plenty of free men about. Some of these expressed annoyance that the unionists were employed this morning. Both freezing works arc sufficiently manned to see the season through. Some of the unionist 'butchers have gone elsewhere.
