SHEARERS' AND FARM LABOURERS' ACCOMMODATION.
Sir—ln your issue of the.Slih.inst, a correspondent, over the hom-de-plumo of ;'"'Ex-Station Hand," takes mo to task for my consistent advocacy of clean, comfortable, healthy accommodation for the above class of workers. Ho states that he. is,"surprised at a man. with such .experience as Mr Boreham has had taking suc .h a onesided view of the matter." May I take the liberty of' informing your correspondent that I am still in the ranks of the working class, and therefore it is the requirements :of the oloss to which I belong that bother me. Surely your correspondent cannot expect one'to fight for both sides, seeing that I belong ordy to one side, and that the • side that suffers from tho effects of filthy accommodation provided by some of our wealthy squatters and farmere. . "Ex-Station Hand," not satisfied with telling us that he is surprised at me advocating the cause of the class to which I belong, and thus inferring that there is at least one person in Waitiahuna. who is prepared to fight or act for any side that happons to suit him, goes on to give what ho calls "a fair view of the situation." Will ho let.me know privately or publicly who i tho men are that havo abused the accommodation provided for them? If bis statement has any foundation in fact hc.6hould, in the interests of common decency, do this. There is no impossibility about his complying with this request. Should he fail to comply, then, my opinion of him is best expressed in a whisper to myself. If, however, he is prepared to prove his statement, I will go to the hut he knows of not 100 miles from Dunedin, and I promise him that I will find it possible to bring tho names of those filthy men before the public; if not in print, then'by some other means. In return, I will take him to a hut I know of not 100 miles from Dimedin, wherein an aged and worn-out shepherd's dog would decline <to take a rest, and if my description of this WTetchcd den is not accurate, then he has my permission to deal with me, 36a1l public liars rhould be dealt with, through tho columns of your .paner.—l am,, etc., Steve Borehau.
