ATLANTIC SHIPPING PROFITS. The directors of the Hamburg-American Lino have declared a dividend of 10 per cent., as against 9 per cent, last year. The working profits of the Hamburg-American Line for 191? amount to £2,825,000, as compared with 2.190.000 in. 1911. The premium obtained on the issue of new shares amounted to about £175,000, and this is carried to reserve. After deduction of interest on debentures there remains a net profit of £2.675,000, as against £2,025,000 last year. Upwards of £1,900,000 will be carried to writing off and reserve accounts. In 1912 tho sum of £2,400,000 was spent on new construction, and at the end <■! the year the. resources at tho disposal of the company amounted to £3,800,000. The Times' Berlin correspondent, who gives the net profit in 1911 at £2,500.000, adds that the Bourse looked for a dividend of 11 per cent, instead of 10, as in the " record " vear 1905. Tho directors say in their preliminary report that the largo addition to the reserve is due to the uneasiness which is still caused by tho political situation and also by the necessity of providing means to fight, if necessary, new competition. Tlie reference is to tho new emigrant line of thoi Canadian Pacific from Tricsio to Canada.
