GREEN ISLAND BOROUGH COUNCIL.

' The monthly meeting of the Green Island Borough Council was hfeld on Thursday evening; present—the Mayor (Mr J. Lindsay), and Crs Miller, Jenkins, Smellie, Price, Reeve, Wilson, Christie, and Waiters. CCnUESPOXDEKOE. '. The Public Works Denartment wrote requesting particulars about -works done in the borough fqr which grants might be claimed.—Received, The Municipal Association wrote conveying particulars of the existence of a trust in London through which local bodies could place loans to advantage.— Received. Tho Mayor of Tauranga wrote asking all particulars about electric lighting, etc. —The clerk was instructed to reply stating that the borough received lighting and power from the Dunedin City Council. Mr Gillanders, Scotland terrace, wrote drawing the council's attention to the state oi the street iin front of his place.— To be attended to. R. Hill wrote on cattle, wandering on the path leading from the Main road .opposite Brown's to the Abboisford Station.— Fences to be erected to stop horses and cattle from going there. The Ladies' Nursing Club asked for the use. of the library room for the purposes of holding classes.—Request to be granted. REPOBTB The Finance Committee reported as follows : —Receipts for the month, £58 9s 4d; accounts passed for payment—district fund account, £102 10s 8d; water loan account. £53 18s; bank overdraft, £264 5s 9d; district fund account, in debit, £420 17s 6d; water loan account, in credit, £202 12s 7d; outstanding Tates, £20. Approximate estimates for the year, £1473 6s Bd. , Tho Works Committee reported the progress made during the month with the different works in hand, and recommended that tho clerk writ© to Messrs Ross and Glendining thanking them for work done at the cattleyards; that kerbing be continued from Buchanan's section to Jef coat street. The new entrance to clerk's room had been completed. GENERAL. Notice of motion was given that the general rate be Is 7<l in the pound, water rate 5 per cent, on the annual value for the ensuing year.. Everything in connection with the water contract is expected to. be finished during the month. It was resolved that the electric lighting department be asked to arrange for tho payment of accounts in Green Island.
