Jameson said South Africa did not/wish to put an extra burden on the 1 British people, but to say that the dominions were unwilling to receive preference "was arrant humbug. He did not think thai the preference which South Africa now granted to Britain would be continued unless she obtained better treatment. The time was not ripe for Rhodesia to enter • the union The 'people would not welcome its absorption by the Union, which was not as essentially British as they-could desire.
