THE PROPOSED SCHOOL AT DALVEY. . TO TUB EDITOB. Sin,—"Ono o( tho Dalvey Deputation" has evidently forgotten what was said to tho J-Mticutiou Board by tho deputation.' My letter was written in correction of what appeared in Uic Daily Times of August 23, in which it was slated that "the child-, rtn in tho neighbourhood hud hud to en. dure grievous hardship in having to walk two miles over a clay road, then drivo six miles through tho rum to Tapanui school." I mentioned beforo that it; is not six miles from the end of tho clay road to Tupanui, und the carl is covered in and dry. I must explain to - 'Onc of tho Dalvcy Deputation" that 1 aid only eight would benefit by the proposed school, as 1 consider tho older children derive greater benefit whero the competition is keener and there' is a higher standard of teaching. If a a-hool were granted no subsidy would bo given by Government, and all would bo deprived of the cart and would have to find their own way to the High School. Tho deputation has ignored the'fact that many children have further to walk than those in the Dalvey Hush, somo havo <i river to cross, und others have to - cross creeks which uro often impassable. 'To!my knowledge, however, the parents of' theso children are satisfied, and they appreciate the advantages of higher education. So far as I am concerned this closes tho correspondence.--1 urn. 010.
