Another detachment of police, corsisting of 30■ constables under Sergeant Miller, arrived from Chrislchureli this morning, and left for Wuihi by the Main Trunk train. Their arrival at Wnihi will bring the strength of the Police Force there up to] 45. Police Commissioner C'ullcn has gone to Auckland. STItIKE OF DECK HANDS. NEW STAFF TO BE ENGAGED. The deck hands on tho Grcymonth Harbour Hoard's dredge Mav.hera struck work this morning, with tho result that no work was performed till the board sunraulecd eight hours' work per day. Tho board declined to have fixed hours owim: to the work boins regulated by the title and refused to comply with tho demand for eight hours from 0 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime payment outside of that. It is probable that a now stall" will be engaged to-morrow.
