Bishop Nevill left Lyttellon last night for Dtincdin by the Ulimatoa,
Mr P. D. Leslie, resident secretary of tho Colonial Motivil Lifo Ir.suranco office, arrived! from Wellington last night.
The Rev. Mr Bush-King returned to town on Thursday evening, after attending the 7th Regiment camp at WyncDiam, where ho was chaplain, and was also in charge of the C.E.M.S. Institute. At a special meeting.of the Cavcrshnil School Committee, held last evening, Miss Jcsln Isabel Given was recommended for tho position of mistress of the school, and Miss Grace M. Farniu was recommended for the position of sixth assistant.
The Oamarii Mail states that Dr M'Adam has been re-elected .Mayor of Oainaru for i: s-econd term, without the necessity of an election. Messrs John lllnck and W M. 11.-uniltoii have been iicminated for the Waiiuato -mayoral contest.
There was a very large gathering of resider.ts at tho Lower Harbour School on Tuoahvy evening lo>t, to bid farewell to Mm and Miss Omond, who are leaving the. district. The former has resided in Lower Harbour for over 40 years. Musical items and recitations were rendered, and Mr William Leslie, superintendent of the local Sunday school, on behalf of friends, presented Mrs Omond with a silver sugar bowl. Miss Bessie Wright, on behalf of the Sunday school, presented .Miss Omond witJi a case containing two silver-backed hair brushes arid comb. Mr A C. Fullerton and Mr W Lnrkins suitably responded on behalf of the recipients.
A pleasant function took place n't tho Southland freezing works, Wallacetown, when Hm employers of the fellmongery department met to hid farewell to .Mr (!. ilerhtfon. on tho eve of his departure to Ikilelmlia. Mr Edwnrds occupied Iho chair, and in a brief uddrcss referred to Mr Ilerhison's many good qualities both ns a manager and as a gentleman, presenting him, on behaif of the employees with a Inindsonio travelling ru?. A social evening waj, 'brought to a close by the singing of " Auld lang sync." A very pleasant gathering of parents and children met at tho Maiingatua Sunday School on Sunday, April 7, when tho Ucv. Mr Spence, on oehalf of the school children and teachers, presented Miss J. Kempshell with a handsome silver-backed brush, mirror, and comb, in a moroccobound case, with iis-:no inscribed', on her severing her connection with the Sunday school after 11 years of service, and also on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Mr Sparks (superintendent) referred to the harmony that had always existed amongst the teachers. Miss "Kempshell feelingly rcspor.ovd. On the Friday evening the members of the Maungatun Bible Class and church choir paid a surprise visit to tho residence of Mrs Kempsholl, Weston l/ndgc, to make a presentation to Miss Kocnpshe!!. The Rev. Mr Spence, on behalf of both '.'lasses, presented Miss Kemp-i-luil with a beautiful travelling rug as a memento r,f their appreciation and good wishes. Mr J. Millar (choirmaster) and several other members voiced the good wishes which accompanied the present, and wished tho recipient a happy voyage and speedy return from tho Homeland.
