The Borough Council to-night considered tho report, of Mr Frederick Black, of Wellington, upon the tramway proposals. tic recommended tho coitetruction of 5i miles of tramways from the Square, via Main street, to Terrace End, iiiwl llufipiUl square U)luhhorbortbridge; Square lo railway, and the Square down liungitikci street liy I'eathereton street to rascal street. The Edison storage tottery system was condcinuc-d, and tlie overhead trolley system, with Australian hardwood poles, was recommended. Six single(lock cars, capable, of liking 30 seated ami 15 standing passengvrs each, are recommended. A subway is to be made under the railway between Jiangitikei and Fitaherlmrt streets to carry the cars right through, so as to avoid level croesings. Tho Uital nisi, of the tramsways is to "lie £53,800. Mr Black also reconimendedan elc<:tnc light and power installation at a cost <if £8500. the power to he the Diesel engine, using crude nil. On the motion »f the Mayor, the council to-night decided l« submit to the ratepayers a proposal to raise a loan of £66,003, made up of: Trains, £53,803; lighting, £8500; contingencies. £550. The first vear's inforest will he £5500.
