The Nukualofa correspondent of the New Zealand Herald writes on February 15 as follows:--"The most destructive hurricane, ever cxjiorionced in ihe .memory of tho oldest, natives struck the island of Lii'uka and other islands of ihe Ilaabai Group on January 30. and has vittuiilir flattened ovcrythintr before it. causing damage to the extent of thousands of pounds, destroying propivty. wrecking l<iat.«, levelling churches, am! so injuring il» coooatuit trees that it will probably Lv» thn-c ycjr- Ivpforo the output of copra in islands will reach the normal level again. From news to hand it is evident that the edge of the hurricane took T.-.uqatabu and Yavati. while Ilaabai got the centre of it. Trade will be affected hern to some extent, but in Ilaabai it will W> paralysed for some [ months to come.
