COOKS AND STEWARDS' DISPUTE.

AMICABLE AGREEMENT, (Ptn United Pniiss Assocution.) WELLINGTON, January 12. At tho conference held to-day to discuss the dispute between tho federated Coolu and Stownnls' Uuiim of N.Z. and the shipping companies and owners, practically all tlio claims were agreed to. The ' terms of thu agreement are as follow:— Minimum wngcn: Chief stewards, £10 jior mouth; chief cooks, £10; cook steward with assistant'or assistants, £10; cook steward, when no assistants are, em- . ployed, £11 10s; attiatants, £4 10s. Yuc (towards hours in all jiort.s shall be, eight (if required), between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. '.Any time worked before or after above ' hours to lie paid for at tlio into of Is per hour. Hours : For eook rt tbo hours shall be 12. with one hour for breakfast, mid one hoiir for dinner. The 12 hours shall be from 6 a.ni. to (i p.m. Any time worked lwforo or after the above hours to be paid for at tlio rate of Is ner hour. For took steward tbo hours shall bo 10, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Any limo worked before or after tho above hours to be paid for nt the rate of Is per hour. Hours of labour at sea shall lie 11, liolwccn 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Any time worked before or after tlio above bonis to bo paid for at the rate of Is per hour. Holidays : For each full year of service ouch worker shall be untitled to 10 oinsetntivo day*' holiday on full pay, at such timo as is convenient to tlio employer. Tlio employer to havo the option to (rive payment at ordinary rated in lieu of holldaye. In camm where workers aro discharged or leave- tho service before, the completion of any 12 months, they shall receive extra pay at ordinary rates, as under; For over three, mouths and umlcr .six months' service, three days' pay; for wx inonllm and under 12 mouths' service, six days' pay.
