THE DUNEDIN NORTH CONTEST.
Rut,-I thank Mr Brocn (or liis roply and apology. It is satis.'actra-y ,to hear from tho secretary that the Trades and Labour Council had nothing to Jo with what I called "tho iluuhl decisionwith winch statement hn evidently agrees—to ask Mr Barclay to retire, ami beforo his consent was obtained, to ask another condidato to take his |Jaoo. It is also eatitfactory to loarn from Mr Brocn that the Trades anil labour Oounoil did not ask Mof«rs Arnold and Sidey to stand osido if not nominated hv it. My cbjcct has boon obtained in gitlitig from an offirin! the diffcronno between the Trades and Labour Council and the Labour Representation Council. Tlio latter, wo arc now informed by Mr Breen. is nine months old. This probably aecounts for the two errors of judgment pointed out by me. Now, Mr Brace doubts niv statement that I used total>o n great interrst in both bodies, as if fo ho would know it, ctc. For Mr Breen's information it is as well for mo to state it is net usual to put all one knows in a nowspapor letter. If this hud been donn l)v me Mr Breen would know a great deal more than ho does at nrojnnt. 1 now Irani that Mr Barclay is seriously indisposed, My objection n« not to Mr Br.rclav lwing asked to retire, but to tho very nnkind and unbtisiness-liko way in which h" wns dealt with after all tlio work an<l effort he put foith for Labour ami its organisations. As Mr Barclay will need to retire owing to illness my support and anv influence I lrnvo will bo given to the sitting member, Mr 0. M. Thomson. I must wncludo by expressing sorrow at the peculiar methods of the Labour Representation Council. and remain surprised that Mr Breen, according to hi 9 Wter, docs not know what is going on in epito of tlio position he liolds. I have liad enough of Labour Representation Council*, Tridc* and Labour Councils, as owing to thoir peculiar methods.—l am. etc., Disowno,
