The Gasworks report for tho fortnight ended Sunday, November 5, is ae follows :-Coal gas made, 5,514,574 cubic fc-et; yield of gas per ton of coal, 12,340 oubio feet; illuminating power of gas, 15.9 candles; coal carbonised, 446 tons 14cwt; letorfsin use, 40; cokb sold, 196 toni 7cwt 3qre; tar eold, 2831 gallons. Tho Tramways Committee, reports that tho portion of tho committee's report of November 1 regarding the application for a contribution towards &j> erection of a verandah at Howe street terminus, which was referred back by tho council for further consideration', is again submitted for the approval of the council in the original form—namely, "An application from Messrs Georgo Spcnco and Co. for a contribution towards the cost of a verandah which ibc applicants propose to erect along tho frontage of a new building at tho corner of George and Howo streets, has- been declined." The Finance Committee reports that an application by Mr Henry Whito' for a rotund of the sum cl bs, being: tho amount of peiialty paid on last year's rates, has been declined, tho council having no power to grant tho request. Authority has boon granted to pay an account amounting to £3 19s from Messrs Sooullar and Chisholm (Ltd.) for muslin supplied, and usod for decorating tho Town Hall and tho Queen's Statue, in connection with tlio recent Cbnotiation oclobratkms.
