PROHIBITION QUESTION
THE POSITION IN MAINE. STILL IN OPERATION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyrißht. SYDNEY. October 12. Canon l.iovco points out thot prohibition is still in force in Maine. The recent vote was only on the question of altering tlw Constitution so that the State Legislature miglit have the power to repeal the prohibitory law if it so desired. Ho thinly it huprok-iltle that Parliament will view the (Hill as a mandate to introduce, towil option, the voting being t-o olnse. A second count will mini likoy be re. (piircd. (Per United J?uks.s Association,) WELLINGTON, October 12. From further information received by the Itev. J. Dawson it appears that the itfiiK' voted on in Maine was "Shall the prohibitory amendment to the State constitution be repealed?" They voted "Yes" or "No." The Rev. Mr Damon to-day received a further cablegram from the Rev. I". J. llerry, superintendent nf the Civic League, and editor of the Civic i Record. as follows " Corrections completed October 9. 'No' majority, 748; total vote, about 121.000." This refers lo tho recount of the original vote on September 11, about which conflicting versions have been received.
