ADDINGTON STOOK MARKET. (Peb United Press Association.)

' CHRISTCHURCH, March 29. Thcro was a rather larger attendance at the weekly salo of stock at Aldington to-day than at tho previous sale,' but the actual number of buyer* operating seomod to bo about the same as at the previous week's market. There was a. big yarding of sheep of all descriptions, both stores and fat sheep and lambs being well represented. In tho etoro section the rango of quality was very varied, and α-large proportion wore rather indifferent. Tlio attention paid to the cattlo and pig pens was l-athev more pronounced than at. recent sales,- and both classes of stock were in Sfood supply.

The yarding of store sheep was heavy, although not so big ns- at tho previous week's salo. The quality generally comparsd unfavourably, ami fcho demand was decidedly weaker. Any jjood sorts wore popular and quitted well. A large proportion of tho entry-consisted of ewes of all descriptions. Tlio entry of lambs was smaller, and no special lots wore prominent for quality. - The wethers were also medium. The sale was not very lively .throughout, and passings wore numerous, Good forward wethers mado 11s to 12s, medium 8s 6d to 9s Gel, medium halfbreds 7s 6d to 8s 6d. Forward lambs realised 8s to 9s, medium 7s to 7s 6d, poorer sorts 5e 9d to 6s 6d, and oulls Js upwawk Best two-tooth ewes mado 13s to 14s, up to Iss for a specially good lot. Four and six-tcotli owes ,12s to 14s, mixed and indifferent sorts 1& 6d to 11s 6d, over-sea sheep 7s 6d to £e &d, mixed lines 4s to 6s, and gumrnics 2s to 5s 6d. Ono pood lot of ewws was withdrawn at 13s lOtl. • "

Tho yarding of fat sheep was a full one, nnd tho supply was equal to requirements. Tho salo opened on a par with late marMs, but bcoanio more animated at the close, but thero was no quotable advance. The quality of the pDnmings was satisfactory, nnd included a number of very nico lines of wethers arid owes. The , range of prices was:—Prime wethnrs 15s 6d to 17s 6d, otlwrs Us 6tl to 15s, unfinished 6s 3d upwards, prime ewes 12s 6d to 15s Id, medium 9s to 12s, aged and light 4s 6d to 5s 6d, merino owes 5s 34 Compared with tilio oittry at last week's market, thero was a fair drop in the number of fat lambs warned. At tho previous salo thore woro 8624 head entered, but 7294 wore all that came in to-day. In point of quality, however, the entries in tho latter market were generally very much better. A few unfinished lines wore inevitable, but the bulk wore vory nico liimbs, nnd in consequence- the demand showed a brisker tendency. In fact, anything at all reasonable, was quitted fairly easily at. satisfactory figures. Exporters secured 6390 at prices ranging from 9s to 14s 10d, and two very extra pens sold at lf» sil and 18s 2d. The average price is estimated at 11s 6d to 13s 6d. Considering tho. extra quality of tho lambs the prices generally remain on a par with into rate, although the range is actually greater. Butchers took about 447 he-ad at Mb 3d to 14s, and 457 wero passed in— a great improvement on last wool;, The yarding of fat cattlo was somewhat smaller than at tho previous week's sale, the figures boing 259 and 372 respectively. Tho quality of tho cattlo penned was on tiio whole slightly better, and prices wore a little higher. No actual rise'in prices can, however, bo quoted when the- quality of tho yarding is taken into consideration. Thero was a slight improvement in the demand, though tho buyere did li'.t el:ow very groat keenness to secure supplies Steers realised £8 to £11 15s, hfifors £5 17s 6d to £9 17s 6d, cows £5 to £8 Vs 6d. Beet Eteer beef brought 24s to 28s, medium

21s 6d to 23s 6d, and cow and inferior beef 18s 6d to 21s per 1001b. . A fair yarding of vcalcrs met with the' usual demand. Prices ran from 4s 6d for Email immature sorts, to £2 10s for wellgrown specimens. Extra quality went up; to £3.

Thore wae a small yarding of store ccttle, chiefly old and indifferent cows. Thero wero fow' buyers present. Prices wero as follow:—Fifteen to 18 months, £2 3s to £2 9s 6d; two a-nd a-half year etocre, £4; and dry cows, £1 to £4 7s 6d. A fair yarding of dairy cows jiet with keen competition, prices ranging from £3 10s to £10 15e. Tlierc was a fair entry of fat pigs, and the demand for best kinds showed an improvement, but buyers lacked keenness. Unfinished sorts wore neglected. Choppers realised to £4, heavy baconere 35s to 47s 6d, this price equalling 5d per lb. Best classes of porkers brought 28s' to 32s 6d, lighter 23s to 27s (equal to 4>kl to 4fd per lb). The demand for store pizs was poor, and sales wero difficult to Larger stores made 16s to 19s, lighter 8s to 15s/ and wcanere 3s to 5s 6d.
