SELECTION OF SITES.

(Pee United Pi-.ess Association)

AUCKLAND, March 23. The high-power wireless telegraphy sta tion for the North Island will be erected in the vicinity of Doubtless Bay, and not near Auckland, from considerations of economy, A site near the city was preferable, but the many a<l vantages of a possible urban situation' were outweighed uy the dilliculty ajid unfavourable topographical arrangement/?. Both Sydney and Suva are to be witliin the ramge of the station, and in no part of the area within a radius of 50 miles of Auckland is there a spot from which an uninterrupted electrical view of both Austialiu and Fiji can be obtained. Five f-mitliss days wore spent by Mt J. Orchiston (Chief Engineer of Telegraphs) and Mr Moens (engineer of the Australasia. Wileless Telegraph Company) in an endeavour to find a suitable situation for Mi« station near a centre of papulation. Abandoning their unsuccessful search, (Jie engineers went to Doubtless Bay. The party returned to tho city yesterday, and Mr Oichiston informed a reporter that theTe had been no difficulty in finding good eit:s to the westward of Doubtle&s Jiay, and a provisional selection hod been nude of half a, dozen sites, from which a firal selection would be made by the At ting Postmaster-general. The party will go to the Bluff next. wosk to select a site for the eouthern high-p'jwcr stetien.
