EDUCATIONAL APPOINTMENTS.

AN ORGANISING INSPECTOR,

(Per United Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, February 8,

The Education Board has instituted a new office of a very interesting nature, and henceforward will include in its executive staff an organising inspector. From a large number of applicants for the position the board has selected Mt Maurice Priestly, at present of Auckland Training College, as tho fust holder of the position. There are among the country schools a number of teachers who from lack of experience and opportunity need guidance and assistance, and the organising inspector is to supply that guidance and assistance. The board decided to appoint an officer at a salary of £350 and actual travelling expenses.

In discussing the matter at to-day's meeting, the Chairman (Mr C. J. Parr) said a man specially endowed with peculiar gifts was needed for the position. The inspector would have to go among the small country schools, which were legion in the district compared with those in others, and which were somewhat weakly staffed at present, and to assist the more inexperienced teaehers and help them to understand the real spirit, object, and scope of the syllabus, and to lay down plans of work. The move was distinctly one in tho right direction, and would improve the efficiency of the schools. Tho ' inspector should be a man of sympathetic temperament, and one who had been "through the mill" himself. The appointment of Mr Priestly was confirmed.
