FIRES.

(Per United I-bess Association)

WHANGAREI, January 27. An eight-roomed house in the Wliau Valley, owned and occupied by Mr D. M'Leod, was completely demolished by lire last night. The building was insured in the National office for £b'2s. The furniture, most of which was saved, was covered by insurance in the Guardian office.

WELLINGTON, January 27.

Early this morning fire at Petone completely destroyed two new six-roomed uncccupicd houses. Each was insured for £iOO.

We have been asked to state that it was Constable Baker who noticed the displacement of the shutters in Briscoe and Co.'s fire-alarm apparatus in the early morning of Wednesday last, and telephoned the information to the Fire Brigade, and not the night watchman (Mr Raidington), as stated by us on Thursday morning.

What one always loses by fire is loss of business and business connection. Install the MAY-OATWAY FIRE ALARM and you never have to face this loss. Office, Bond street.—Advt.
