, HEAVY SEAS ON THE EAST COAST. • SHIPPING DELAYED. ' (Per United Press Association.) ' . GISBORNE, April 25. _ A severe southerly gale has been raging since noon on Saturday, and a tremendous sea is running along tho east coast. TheTarawera, which passed East Cape at 11 a.m: on Sunday, and the Rangatira, from Auckland, due yesterday afternoon, have not yet put in an appearance here, and are probably standing out to sea till the weather moderates, There has been a slight washaway on the railway line near the Gisborn« wharf.

The- fjale is no>v abating and the sky is clearing. Tiro schooner Otcti is ashore at Tokomaru, not at Tuparoa as announced earlier.

NAPIER, April 25. A 'phenomenally heavy sea is running in the bay, and the Tarawera, from the north, is holding off pending its moderating.

It is reported from Tuparoa that the schooner Oreti, late Waratali (when she used to trade to Dunedin from Kaipara), bound from Auckland to Gisborno, was driven ashore by the gale. The crew are safe, and the vessel is believed to be uninjured. • The wire being down, no further particulars are available.
