SUBMARINE ACTIVITY
ERUPTIONS NEAR- KAWHIA. (Per Ukitb> Pkess Association.) > ' _ AUCKLAND, April 5. Submarine eruptions have been occurring lately in tho vicinity of Kawhia at a point ..between .Albatross Point and (Satinet Island.. About five have now occurred, and those who have witnessed hem state that the water is thrown as ugh as the mast of a schooner. That the disturbance is considerable is shown by the fact that the, beach for about 12 miles in length is, covered with red and black mud ana deep-sea shells after each-eruption, addW to which tho'smell' of sulphur is -unpleasantly strong. Cantain L.ddle, who lives three miles awav ard who kan invalid,'is able to tell b"y he strong smell of «nlpl,ur when there has been, another eruption.
