STATEMENT BY EMPLOYERS^

REWARDING FREE LABOUR. SYDNEY, March 7. (Received March 7, at 10.15 p.m.) At the conclusion of the meeting of Newcastle colliery-owners to-day the following communication was made to the press:—" The proprietors are asked by the Employees' Federation to state how many men are at present employed in the mines, and if they are unionists. What the federation really wants is that we should dismiss these men, and that is precisely what we refuse to do. Those men came to our assistance in a time of trouble, and the meeting unanimously decided not to sacrifice them. .We do not intend to budge an inch."
