Progressives and Socialists ... 58 A recount has been ordered in connection with the remaining seat. LONDON, March 6. (Received March 7, at 7.15 p.m.) •There were small polls, and general apathy characterised -the elections.
A CLOSE ELECTION. MODERATE MAJORITY ASSURED. LONDON, March 7. (Received March 8,.. it 0.50 a.m.) The recount for Contral Finsbury, the remaining seat, .resulted in Hemphill (Progressive) and Rostron (Moderate) each polling 3460. Of the aldermen continuing in office nine are Moderates and. two Progressives. Therefore a Moderate majority is a-ssured. Two ladies were elected, including the daughter of the Chief Rabbi. Despite tho possible tie, the Moderates have secured a plurality of 39,663 votes. Forty-eight per cent, of the voters went to the poll.
