ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
IDLE AND .DESPERATE. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 23. . A Masterton man named Albert Victor Sly .was charged at the court this mornmg with, attempting to commit suicide yesterday .evening by swallowing oxalic acid-. _ Accused said he was tired of life. He bought 3d worth' of oxalic acid at a ' chemist's, and walked out to Onaki, where ' ■ he boiled it in a pannikin and "drank it. A settler, noticing his condition, ndministered a strong doso of salt and water, which counteracted tho action of tho poison. His <ondition is not serious. Sly is a recont arrival in the country. He was unable '.o obtain work, and had only la and, a halfpenny in his pocket. Ho was remanded.
