GREEN ISLAND BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tlio monthly inert lug of the Careen Island Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening, and was attended by his Worship the Muvor (Mr \V. GeJdcsj and Crs Jenkins, Love, AVflson, Reeves, Lindsay, Miller, Price. J. Geddes, and Dr WiH. Tlio District Engineer, -Now Zealand Railways, wro'.e staling that iho matter to which the department's attention had been drawn would bo attended to.—Roccived. Mr.F. Freeman wrote slating his willingness to act on behalf of the Borough Council at the. election of members to Iho Charitable Aid Board.—Received. Ml* Macandrew, district engineer, wrote stilting that the council could have some of the metal ballast from the railway at a price stated, n.nd it was resolved to procure all that was available at the price quoted. Tlio Clerk ot tho T; lieri County Council wrote stating I hat his council declined to admit liability of half cost, for maintenance of boundary roads until somo agreement had been made between the two bodies concerned.—After discussion it was Tesolved to asl; the County Council why it had altered flic practice of paying half cost, which has hitlierto been done, with tho Green Island Borough Council, The railway _ nuiliorilics wroto stating that for duplication purpoiaes they bad closed Rumciniiui street to vehicular traffic. A letter was forwarded bv the District En gincer, New Zealand Railways, stating that the new street connecting Runoiman street and Neil street was completed, and ashing 4 .he council to take it over. Mr A. Lee Smith again wrote re setting back frontages to certain streets running through his property in the event, of his offering it for sale to the public,—The council u-ent into committee to deal with tho matter Tho Secretary to the Municipal Association forwarded a copy of Wellington City Council's by-laws for perusal.—Recctved. The Clerk reported a number of repairs dona to streets and culverts during the mouth, also the amount of metal which bad been spread where required— Report ailproved. Several accounts wore ipassed for payment. It was reported that ratepayers who have hedges cnoroachng on the streets were very dilatory in attending to the council's request, to keep them within bounds. In accordance with notice of motion it (Vits resolved to impose a rale of 2d i.ll tho pound, said rate to bo levied from tho Ist inst. DOMAIN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Green Island Domain Board was held afterwards, and was attended by the chairman (Mr W. Goddes) and Messrs .lcnkM?. ixive, Wilson Lindsay, Miller, and Dr Will. It was stated that the high wind had done some little damage to the trees and grass recently planted, but otherwise things were pro", grossing favourably.
