MEETING OF COUNTY CAPTAINS. PRESS METHODS CRITICISED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 7. (Received Dec. 7, at 9.45 p.m.) A meeting of first class county captains at Lords passed n resolution of regret at the fact that a certain section of the press was exploiting cricket in an unworthy manner. Mr C. B. Fry complained of the tendency to introduce into cricket an atmosphere of bitter personal criticism. It was no disgrace lo be beaten by the Australians. He had never seen such an exhibition of bad losing as had been shown by a large section of tho British press. Mr Spofforth supported Mr Fry's protest against tho running down of players. TRIANGULAR CONTESTS. LONDON, December 7. (Received Dee. 7, at 9.45 p.m.) The Hon. F. S. Jackson sajs that the triangular contests in 1912 will be spectacularly attractive. Ho is coining round to tho view that from an Imperial standpoint the experiment should be tried; AUSTRALIAN TEAM'S VISIT. THE POOLING SYSTEM. (Per United Pbess Association.) CIIRISTCHURCTI, Deoember 7. Regarding the. financing of tho Australian cricket team's tour in tho Dominion, the Canterbury Cricket Association lias decided to adnere to the pooling system, ■nonsid'oring it to be the most equitable to all tho association's concerned. The following players have been selected to practise in view of the annual interprovineial match against Canterbury, which commences in Christchurch on Christmas Day;— Fisher, Sicdcberg, Hopkins, Austin, Macartney, Rutherford (Carisbrook), M'l''arlane, Wordsworth, lliddleston, Williams (Albion), Downes, Henderson, W. Beal (Grange), Callaway (Opoho), Eckhold, Condliffc, Torrance, and Wilson (Duncdin). i. C. G. Macartney, who lacerated his right .hand when vaulting over a barb-wiro fence at a local lawn tennis court on Friday last, anticipates being able to play for I Carisbrook B on Saturday next.
The suggestion that Otago. should challenge for the Plunket Shield this year has not been lost sight of, and, though nothing definite lias been decided, arrangements are being made quietly towards that end. Everything depends upon tho results of the Wellington-Auckland and Canterbury matches. North-End Harriers v.
