A scheme for the improved lighting of til'! Uppper and Lower Harbour'lias been under consideration of the engineering department of the Otago Harbour Board for somo time. It is proposed to nut a liHge, number of adddilioinl'lights in'fho Lower Harbour, nnd the channel from the black buoy on thu south sid.3 of the light-ship is to Ik lighted on both sides with idle lights right, up to Dunedin. It is also liroiiosnd to nut additional leading lights on the, ■north-western side of the mainland <if the lower channel at- suitable positions right up to Quarantine Island. The scheme also provides for a light on Goat Island opiiosite the one on Quarantine Island. iSonie of (lie lights are at present under construction, and under the improved lighting it is intended that all lights slia>!l be at. the edge of the deep water in every c;use.
