COUNCIL OF CHURCHES.
A well-attended meeting of the Council of Christian Churches was held last evening in the Congregational Hali, Moray place. The president (Rev. D. Borrie) was in the chair.
The Secretary (Rev. C. Dutton) reported that, acting upon the suggestions made by the president at the annual meeting, (our sectional committees had been formed -7-Publio Questions, Bible in Schools, Religious Services, and Finance. These committees to repoit direct to the council. Last evening tho council cossidcred the following suggestion brought forward by tho Public Questions Committee (convener, Rev. U. Knowlcs Smith)-" That this Council of Evangelical Churches notes with regret the agitation [or tho. restarting of thft Sabbath morning trains, and desires to express its sincere pleasure in tho decision of tho council negativing tho proposal, believing that a majority of the Christian Churches, Tather than desiring them, are unanimously and emphatically opposed thereto; that this Council of Evangelical Churches views with alarm the increasing desecration ot 'the Sabbath, and is of opinion that tho Sunday band performances in the parks and the ever-increasing number of Volunteer and Cadet Sabbatu afternoon parades all toster this disregard of the sanctity of the Lord's Day. VV« therefore urge upon tho churches the necessity of bringing to bear upon the public opinion of the community all possible influence to secure the discontinuance ot these performances and parades." A vote of condolence was passed with tho widow of Mr S. C. Phillips,, a past vicepresident.
