Mr Hughes declares that the arrests enormously complicate the situation. Hi© Railway and Tramway Association refused to countenance a general strike. In voting money for strike purposes the association, ear-marked it for the specific uxe of all. The leaders who were arrested were bailed out within a few hours, The offence is alleged to have been committed on November 5. This was the date oil which tire 'Delegate Board recommended a strike. The police visited tho Trades Hall, and secured a largo number of documents and tho minute book relating to the proceedings of November 5. A MISUNDERSTANDING, SYDNEY, December 6. .Tho wharf labourers knocked oil unloading tile cargo of the steamer Dorset, The discharge of the Marmora's general cargo .lras fen commenced by unionists. Mr Lewis (treasurer of tho Northern Miners' Federation) has been arrested. llioso who were arrested on Saturday appeared at the Ncwcastlo Court to-day and were remanded, till to-morrow. MEETING OF WATERSIDE WORKERS. MR HUGHES'S INFLUENCE. SYDNEY, Dwsmbor 6. (Received Dec. 7, nfc 0.40 a.m.) Ail important meeting of tho Waterside Workers' Union was held to-night. The meeting expressed confidence in the Striko Committee, but it was resolved to continue work.
