HOSPITAL AND BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.

ELECTION OF REPRESENTATIVES. The annual meeting of delegates of the contributory local authorities for. the pur--1)0.-3 of electing six representatives lo the Benevolent fnsrituiion Trustees was held in the Town Hall at 2.30 yesterday afternoon. Mr S. Solomon was voted to the chair. The Chairman said the present meeting was in a somewhat, different position from those meetings that bad been held annually for many years past, and it seemed to be more or less it mere formality. As they, were aware, there was before the House at the present iime a new bill for the management of hospitals and charitable institutions. That bill, it was expected, wolild have been passed before to-day, but some little difference of opinion had arisen between the two branches of the Legislature. It was ex|)ccted, however, that it would lie passed in a day 'or so. When it did become law the two boards to which delegates had that day been called together to elect representative!) would cease lo exist, and the two institutions—the llos.pital and (he Benevolent Institution—would be managed by one board—namely, the Otago Hospital und Charitable Aid Board. Had the bill passed during the last, day or so. (ho present trustees would have remained in office until April next. The delay, however, made an election necessary, but as those elected would only hold office for about, six weeks, he would suggest, that under the circumstances it would be very foolish to interfere with the present, state of alfairs. It was advisable that the present trustees be allowed to carry on until the close of the term. lie moved—

"That the following members be re-elected as the representatives of the various contributing bodies:—Messrs J. M. Gallaway, ,1. Loudon, E. A. Tapper, F. W. Knight, 11. A. LeCren, and 11. E. Moller."

This was seconded by Mr J. 11. F. Ha-inel, and carried.

The meeting for the appointment of reprosontativGs on lite Hospital Trustees followed immediately. Mr Solomon, who again presided, said'his previous remarks applied in this instance also. He moved— "That Messrs J. Mill, J. Loudon, J. M. Gallaway, J. M'Donald, S. Solomon, and Dr Batehelor be re-elected." This was carried. 'l'ha Hon. Thomas Mackenzie having intimated that ho could not see his way to stand fcr re-election, Mr J. M'Donald, who was formerly the City Council's representative on tho trustees, was selected to fill tho vacancy. Crrr Council's Representative. At a. meeting of the City Council, held at 12 o'clock, to elect one representative to the Hospital Trustees and one to the Benevolent Trustees, the Mayor (Mr J. 11. Walker) was appointed the council's representative on both bodies.
