ROSLYN BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho ordinary meeting of the Roslyn Borough Council, held last night, was attended' by tho Mayor (Mr J. H. T. Hamel), Ore A. Matheson, T. Howard, R. Menzi«s, L. Wright, A. M'Millan, J. W. Todd, D. Mastorton, and A. Washer. An apology was received from. Cr Fea. COnRESI'OSDESCE. The Christchurch City Council forwarded a resolution affirming the desirability of universal military taking in the Dominion, and asking tho co;mcil to svpport the proposal.— Resolved t.o co-operate-in the movement, as requested. Tho City Kliclrieal Engineer wrote asking permission to'evoct substation in James street, as per pW submitted, as the' samo was required -in connection with reticulation for private- lighting-.—Referred

to tho Lighting Committee; permission to be granted subject to.its approval. .Mas-riii Kiivg called, attention to the planting of a hedge outside the boundary of Stou-ard's section.—Referred to inspector. .T. Blakelcy, Littlcbournci wrote asking that the gutter in front of his house might ho swept out, as tho drainage from aseptic tank by was almost unbearable.—Referred to inspector. , J. 0, Gordon.wrote calling attention to want- of drainage at tho entrance '!o his section at Sunnjeide.—Received. Tho Secretary ot the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board forwarded copy of circular receivo-d from Dr Valintine, pointing out that probably there would ho no need to prooewl with tho-election- of representative until April next.-if- tlve new bill becomes law.—Received, and tho Mayor to appointed to represent the council when the election took place. .RErpRTS. Tile Works Committee recommended that with regard to drainago. from houses in Jackson street, ,tho..s'torm water in the Aiidcrstoir Gully' should riot bo piped—the pipes suggested to. be vised for house drainage only; that a load of fine, metal be laid in Littlebourne orescent opposite to Mr Carter's property;.that Mr K. Fleming be informed that the council has the work of forming Beta street to its full width in hand, and that'ho can be supplied with any information he may require regarding levels; ithat somo'improvement be made to tho Sargood street • paths, but that permanent kerb and channels cannot bo undertaken until the next works allocation is. made; that with regard to tho petition from Jackson street,, the path be asphalted and wood kcrbed;' that the. acceptance of a. tender for the carrying out of work ill Beta, street bo' left in the hands of the Mayor and the town clerk; that the matter of payment- for compensation' to Captain Paterson in -respect of the subdivision of property in the Kaikorai bo referred to tho .Mayor and town clerk to endeavour to come to a settlement; that tho south sido of tho North Taieri road between Church and Main streets be kerbed and channelled in concrete; the engineer has been instructed to ecc Mt Roach with regard to tho break in the Charlotte street footway opposite his back entrance, with the view of getting the. same filled in, and to report on' straightening part of Main street opposite Mrs Smith's property.— Adopted. . The Finance Committee's report recommended that with reference to. Mr C. K. Chapman's letter, no reduction can bo made in charges for water supplied to closets; that the communication from tho Oity Council regarding the-charges for gas service connections has been referred to the Lighting Committee,- that accounts on tile' district fund amounting' to £529 18s 7d, and £3 water loan account, be ipasscd for payment. The committee reported that tho bank overdraft at.date.is £5707 16s W, and current revenue is £3899'■ Os sd,—Adopted.
