MAORI HILL FIRE BOARD

■ The monthly meeting of the .Maori Hill Firo Board was'held at the offico of the secretary (Mr C. Greater) yesterday after--11.1011. The members'present were—Messrs S.N. Brown (in the chair), 11. D. Stronach, E. S. Clarke, 0. Balk, and J, E. Cameron. CORRESI'QXDENCE. Tho secretary of the Christchurcli Firo Board wrote asking to be furnished with name of delegato who would attend the conference at Wellington on November 18. Mr F. G. Cray had already teen appointed, tho chairman explaining that ho had not been aware when Mr Cray wa,s asked to act that Mr'Bolam, one of their members, would attend tho conference— Received, and action approved. The Inspector of Fire Brigades (Mr T. I. Hugo) wrote suggesting that the 1750 ft cf hose possessed by the brigade was insufficient, and should bo 2000 ft at least; that l pair of 10ft 6in coupling ladders were acquired; also hand pumps to each station. To obtain a.s good results as possible from tho fin alarm system the installation should be connected directly with the big bell by means of a water wheel, or other mechanical means. 8o that in case of a fire when no ono was at tho station tho boll would be automatically rung by the- person operating (ho fire alarm box. Unless this was done, for 14 hours on the average out of tho 24 tho installation would bo of no service, as there would bo no ono at the station to attend to it. Direct connection fciiould also bo established between the two 6tations, Special arrangements should be made with tho paper mill's manager for communicating alarms.
