The method varies with the differing nationalities of' the peoples employing it (says Harper's Weekly). The Armenians of Russia cover tiie entire skin of tho baby with a very fine wit. This is left on the baby for thro - ! hours or more, when it is washed off with warm water. A mountain tribe of As:a Minor are even more peculiar in this regard than the Armenians, for they arc alleged to keep their new-born babies covered with salt for a ;>2riod of 24 liours. The modern Greeks «lso sprinkle their babies with salt, and even in certain portions of Germany salt is still used on a child at birth.
